As of April 1 2024, evee provides rental insurance only. For personal use outside bookings, you will need to arrange your own insurance.
evee’s rental insurance
evee provides comprehensive insurance coverage for rentals, meaning you won’t be liable for damage that occurs during a booking. Check out our Insurance page for more.
10% of the daily rate goes to the insurer to provide this basic level of cover (effectively making evee’s commission 25%). If a renter wants to bring their damage liability to $0, they can purchase our insurance add-on evee Protect during checkout.
If your car is damaged during a rental, please report it to our team as soon as possible. We’ll capture the damage liability amount from the renter and organise repairs. Read our ‘What if my car is damaged’ article for more.
Private insurance
evee’s insurance applies to rentals only so you will need to organise private insurance for the vehicle. Here is a list of major Australian insurers that cover personal use, even when there is some aspect of rental use through evee:
You may need to disclose the car sharing*, though this should not affect the premium as evee’s insurance covers for this type of activity. There seems to be some confusion about this within the insurance industry, so we recommend speaking to a representative on the phone and explaining the car’s primary use is personal with occasional car sharing and that evee covers the rental insurance.
*Because of duty of disclosure, you want to be mentioning all the ways in which the vehicle will be used in case you have a personal accident and need to submit a claim (worst case scenario if you don’t is that they deny your personal claim on accounts of the policy being voided).
