Snow Travel ❄️
Embarking on a snowy road trip with an electric vehicle (EV) can be an incredible experience. If you're planning to venture into the snow during your rental, please ensure to inform your host during the booking request and check with them to see if they provide snow chains where needed.
In most Australian states, carrying snow chains during the snow season is a legal requirement. Snow chains are mandatory if the snow is forecasted at 1600 meters or less. For two-wheel-drive vehicles traveling to snowy regions, snow chains must be carried during this period. However, four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles do not require snow chains.
Important Note for Tesla Cars: If you're renting a Tesla, it's crucial to follow Tesla's recommendation for snow chains. Tesla advises using their recommended brand of snow chains, specifically the König CG-9 103. Please install snow chains only on the rear wheels of Model 3 and only on 18" and 19” tires. Using non-recommended snow chains can lead to suspension and other vehicle damage.
Tips for Safe Snow Travel:
Check Weather and Road Conditions:
Stay updated on weather forecasts and road conditions for your chosen route. Snowy weather can create challenging driving conditions, so being well-informed and adjusting your travel plans accordingly is essential. Consider traveling during daylight hours for better visibility.
Monitor Battery Levels:
Keep a close eye on your EV's battery levels during your snowy journey. Colder weather can impact the battery's range, so be prepared to adjust your travel plans and locate nearby charging stations as needed.
Plan Your Route:
Before starting your snowy adventure, meticulously plan your route, ensuring you have access to charging stations along the way. This step is particularly crucial in remote or mountainous regions.
With these tips in mind, you can enjoy a memorable and eco-friendly snowy road trip with your EV and embrace the beauty of the snow-covered landscapes while knowing you're reducing your environmental impact.
